{my art} inner revolution

The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are.
You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask.
There can't be any large-scale revolution until there's a personal revolution, on an individual level.
It's got to happen inside first.
Jim Morrison

  3. I'm quite surprised by the quote is it Jim Morrison of the Doors? If so such wisdom out of the mouth of the very young! My love has been a Doors fan the whole of his life and that's quite a long one!

Love the artwork, the last post about anger was very well put, bravo.

  6. Amazing quote and the art is incredible. That quote has me thinking now, about how we can find and be our true selves when society shoves masks in our direction to wear from the time we're children. That might be my meditation today.

  8. Makes me think of the Emerson quote:

"to be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment"

So many go through life according to how society dictates they should. When you finally realize you have the freedom to be yourself - it's a beautiful thing.

Love Jim Morrison - and your art, too!

  11. "It's got to happen inside first." that's how art gets out of ourselves. It needs a bit of a revolution inside. Amazing things can happen when we're looking for our true being.

  14. I feel we're living in a time where this quote rings truer than ever before. There is such a dichotomy between those striving to live a more authentic life and those who are working very hard to keep a society going that is based on masks and pretense, often by keeping the first type of people under their thumbs. It seems like the second category holds all the 'power' in the world, thus perpetuating a society that honours and values THEIR way of living.

Wouldn't it be great if we kept building a society that values authenticity and true connections? By keeping our hearts and minds open, by raising our children in a 'different' way. I believe that's possible. Call me naive, call me an idealist but I'm hopeful.

What I have experienced myself over the past three years though, is that it's much more difficult to really shed the mask than it was to construct it in the first place. It takes such self-knowlegde and courage. So often, you face such opposition. I'm still learning every single day how to keep at it.

  15. Cam, so our kids are siblings? :D

e, exactly. i understand the need for a mask, only because of the societies we've constructed. but it's the stuff that futuristic dystopias are really founded on.... the mask wearing becomes mandatory until it becomes innate. scary shit.

  20. was arguing freedom the other day with a friend. wish i had come across this. personal revolution. yes! and while it might seem that freedom is limited within the scope of a series of choices, once you're living authentically freedom can look any damn way you want it to. this is my freedom. (feels good.)

    deep and rich artwork, monica.
