Venice remembered {August break}

 scanned film photo
me + something cool and icy near the canals
Venice, 1998-ish

Last year I hooked up to the August Break at Susannah Conway's place.
I was hoping she'll host it again for 2011 and she has.

The premise is that you let go of any blogging obligations but remain online, with photo-only posting (or at least few words). Additionally, you're giving your regular readers a lighter read (who - for us in the North anyway - are also trying to enjoy Summer outside). Meaning that we can make our way around to the same number of blogs in a lot less time, and get back out there to bask in sunshine with a good book....
Also, with an organised  'Break' you let any new readers know this isn't the ordinary schedule.

Ultimately, it means we all stay connected but in an easier, lighter, chilled out, groovy Summery way.

...in his heart of hearts he could almost wish that, when he was grown up, his life should consist of nothing but nonsense: just music, love, literature, carefree friendship, a life brimming with glorious, intoxicating Olympian nonsense.

  1. This sounds so fantastic. I noticed the button on your blog yesterday, and of course signed up right away. From what I've been reading, it sounds like many bloggers are in need of a break.

"just music, love, literature, carefree friendship, a life brimming with glorious, intoxicating Olympian nonsense" - wouldn't it be grand if life always consisted of those things? Oh, to dream.

Beautiful photo of you, and such a gorgeous background.

    Enjoy your break!

  6. That photo is so beautiful and Venice is a stunning place.

Yes, yes, yes, I would love a life full of nonsense and a break seems to be on the card for me too. The August break is a great idea, especially since the school holidays are going to take up quite a bit of my time and I actually like just having pics sometimes... Anyway, does that mean shorter comments too? ;-)

Wishing you a lovely weekend xo

  7. Terrific idea. As it goes, a picture speaks a thousand words anyway, right? It's a good idea to get out of "headspace" once in a while and let the mind & body relax, and August is the perfect month for that. The photo of you in Venice is just dreamy!

  11. Wonderful pic there - love the vibe!

The August break sounds like an excellent idea - of course, it's deepest darkest winter for me in this part of the world, but with all the study I have on, doing photo posts is certainly a compelling idea. Although, mine wouldn't be looking very sunny at the moment. Hehe.

And I think the August break is a great idea ... a way to take things easier and yet not disappear altogether (which I seem to have a habit of doing).

  21. that is such a delicious photo! we once had a memorable picnic along the canals holding up a giant umbrella in the rain ~ just dates, cheeses and bread.

the idea of the august break is very appealing to me.

  22. I love Venice, it's so classic. What I love MORE is that everything you're wearing in 1998 is suddenly back in style. The felted bag, the flats, floral dresses. Honestly, that photo could have been from last week. You're lovely canal side :)
